This is interesting, I have heard from 2 different dealers that John Deere is discontinuing the 4000 line of tractors, changing the sheet metal and some under the hood and calling it the 1000 series. I was wondering if any of the other compact users have heard about this.

It would make sense. When someone asks about my JD and I tell them I have a 4400. Their eyes look bewildered. Then comes; what do you need with a tractor "THAT BIG" for??? Refering back to the 44 series AG tractors. Just my thought because I have not heard anything yet. Course I try to stay away from there, for awhile, cause I want a snow blower, but am not ready to part with money yet.... ....

Here's another rumor (from a source in which I have confidence)-- that the present 4xxx line will be discontinued in two years and the new replacements will keep the same model numbering system except for the addition of a "10" for the last two numbers. For example a 4400 would become a 4410, etc. I guess that I don't understand why a tractor line should be eliminated after over 200 improvements have been made, bugs removed and the tractors that are manufactured now appear to be dependable, of good quality with good capabilities. Mike S. ....

This is nothing new. John Deere has traditionally changes the model numbers of it's tractors and changes are made. Example; the 4010 (full size tractor in the early 60's) became the 4020, 4030, etc. As a change occurs they usually change the third digit on the four digit model code; or the second digit if it's a three digit code, like the 770 / 790. ....

I am a Kubota owner, but I have a friend that is a JD salesman. I just spoke with him about buying an implement for my Kubota and asked him about the new JD line. He told me that the new line should be released in August of this year. I am not sure about the model numbers or anything like that, but I thought you all would be interested in hearing that. He did say that it would be VERY similar to the Kubota BX line and competitively priced. I hope JD does thier homework on this one because mine is a BX2200 and if the new JD is anything like it, it will be an awesome little machine. ....

Sounds like we have two new lines coming out from Deere. From what you are all reporting it sounds like one is a subcompact line in the BX1800/2200 bracket coming this summer and the other a compact line to update the 4000 series within 2 years. ....

The new compact tractors from John Deere is the same old 4000 series with improvements, minor body/color/graphic changes and will be the "10" series: 4110, 4210, 4310, etc. We toured the compact tractor assembly plant last July in Augusta, GA. JD is soon to open an entire new assembly plant on the same campus. Because of overcrowded facilities, the traditionally "off limits" area for R&D had overflowed into the assembly area. We saw several tractors in "prototype" form which looked like modified. exisiting models and they had the "10" added on. We saw a 4310 and a 4610. We were not allowed to take pictures in the plant, but were allowed to take picture in the shipping yards. I have a 4100 and thought the 4100's with full cabs for oversees markets were really cool! JD was very accomodating and had an employee take my family on a 1 hour tour - just us! (I had called ahead and inquired though) ....
